Joseph E. Fournier
Joseph E. Fournier is an Attorney and a CPA who has more than twenty years of experience advising and leading companies and individuals in a variety of capacities.
Joe has significant experience in a variety of business legal matters, including start-ups and company formations, drafting shareholder and operating agreements, contracts, employment law, commercial litigation, tax planning and audit defense, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). He also handles estate planning matters, such as business succession planning, wills, trusts, and probate.
Joe has a unique perspective on how to represent and advise his clients because prior to starting his own law firm, he spent more than five years in the Boston office of PwC, the largest professional services firm in the world, served as General Counsel for one of the nation's largest medical records management companies, and then spent three years as Managing Attorney and COO for one of the nation's leading law firms.
Joe received his law degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill School of Law and his Accounting degree from the University of Rhode Island. He is admitted to practice law in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, and he is a CPA. He is periodically an Adjunct Professor and lecturer at the University level and has been a frequent speaker on business planning and legal matters.
Joe enjoys spending time with his family and dogs and traveling to warm weather locations. When he is not coaching his children, he is trying to compete with them in the gym, on the tennis court, or on the golf course.

James M. Miele
Attorney James M. Miele established Miele Law Offices, LLC in 2003. A 1982 graduate of Cheshire High School, Attorney Miele graduated magna cum laude from the University of Connecticut in 1986 and cum laude from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1989. He is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. He is admitted to practice before the Connecticut State and Federal courts and is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association and the New Haven Bar Association. He a Past President of the Cheshire Chamber of Commerce and serves on the board of directors of a number of local non-profit organizations.
A Cheshire native, Attorney Miele has been practicing law since 1988, beginning as a law clerk with Hitt, Sachner, Coleman & Hecht, a firm established by Attorney Fred A. Hitt. In 1997, Attorney Miele became a partner in the firm, then known as Hitt, Sachner & Miele. He took over management of the general practice side of the firm in 1998, when Attorney Hitt retired. Attorney Miele now practices at Miele Law Offices, LLC.

Thomas Scanlon, CPA, CFP®
Tom Scanlon has over thirty years experience in public accounting with an extensive background in the areas of financial, tax, and estate planning. He prides himself on providing in-depth and customized solutions to privately held businesses and their owners. Tom received his Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting from Bryant College in 1980. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner®.
Tom is a frequent speaker for area organizations and has been a guest columnist for numerous publications including The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, Money Magazine, The Hartford Courant, The Hartford Business Journal, and The New Haven Register. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Financial Planning Association. Active in the community, Tom supports a variety of not-for-profit organizations.

Jeff Swiggett, CBI, M&AMI
Jeff Swiggett has over thirty years of business experience involved with positions in engineering, manufacturing, marketing, business start-up and acquisition, including owning and operating an import/export firm and a manufacturing company. Jeff brings a wealth of practical experience when advising clients on selling or buying a business and brings a level of professionalism to the process that makes him and the VR office one of the best recognized and most admired business intermediaries in Connecticut. In 2018, Jeff was designated the most valuable intermediary in the VR network of offices and was ranked the #1 office owner in commissions earned. Jeff is one of the few New England and Connecticut business brokers that has been certified as a Certified Business Intermediary (CBI) from the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA) and a Mergers & Acquisition Master Intermediary (M&AMI) from the M&A Source. A graduate of Colgate University with a degree in Physics and Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Jeff is an active member in the IBBA, M&A Source, New England Business Brokers Association (NEBBA), New Haven Manufacturers Association (NHMA) and the New Haven Chamber of Commerce.
